The most important conversation you are likely to have
We spend our lives talking to people. From early morning to late night we have many types of conversation with many different types of people.
It could be the bus driver, the cab driver or just chatting about the weather to a random person in a queue. Each one is a conversation.
But how often do we have a conversation with the person who controls your life ? …….That person is you!
We often tend to avoid these intimate confrontataions for fear of disturbing the status quo. These are the conversations where you can’t hide the details.
You can’t mislead or misdirect yourself – you know you too well for that!
So what sort of conversation should you be having?
The age old expression ‘stop and smell the roses’ is apt.
This hamster wheel we call life only seems to get faster and rarely slows down.
Whether it’s busy at work or looking after the kids, its hard to spot the point when we stop thinking about ourselves and it becomes all about others.
Sound familiar?
Sometimes we need an external influence to make us stop and have that all important conversation.
As I write this I’m waiting for a plane in Kentucky USA surrounded by people rushing around looking harassed. Few are talking to each other and many have their laptops open, concentrating intently.
So I stopped and had an internal conversation.
I ‘talked’ about the week I just had, discussed the parts I really enjoyed and shared how I felt about the people I just met and worked with. I then had a conversation about the coming weeks and the opportunities I hope will arise.
And here’s the cool part – I really enjoyed the conversation.
It was chatting to the oldest friend I have who understands me like no other.
The criticism was constructive and the outcome positive.
It made me reflect on how many people I know rarely stop to collect thoughts.
To conciously take time out with themselves.
To not let hustle and hassle of everyday life overrun them.
To have the conversation that really matters.
Isnt it time to create that opportunity?
