Corporate Communications Coaching & Mentoring
Effective communication has been described as the ‘Holy Grail’ of successful organisations. Sadly, and despite technological advances, many companies still struggle to communicate as well as they would wish, both internally and externally.
The clear strategy, directions and intentions of the executive often start to dissipate, become complicated and confusing as soon as the communication leaves the boardroom.
Sometimes technology can be the cause of the misunderstanding (how many long and laborious PowerPoint presentations have you sat through that just had a simple message?) at other times, it’s the communication process that lets the organisation and it’s people down.
I make no apologies for being a simplist when it comes to effective communication.
The best communicators in the world have discovered that simple, easy to understand messages last longer in the mind and can be most effective at persuasion and influence.
That doesn’t mean to say that they should be ‘dumbed down’
Just clearly thought through from the audiences point of view and then delivered in a language that all can understand.
I am often asked to ‘take a look’ at organisations to see where their communication is sticking or where messages are simply not getting through. By talking to people at different levels it often becomes clear where the trouble lies and by taking simple steps, we can create clear strategies to increase awareness at every level.
Having spent all of my working life within the communication world, it still amazes me that people expect technology (email, intranet, video) to be as effective as personal communication and be the solution to persuading and influencing on a large scale.
There is a stronger, more effective and long lasting solution to it based on simple principles that everyone in the organisation can adopt and make poor communication a thing of the past.
